Summer Set Music & Camping Festival

Grove Stage

Technotrix has been the preferred sound reinforcement provider for Summer Set Music and Camping Festival since its inaugural year. Once again, Technotrix aimed to exceed expectations by deploying a system that was able to handle the wide range of musical genres present at the festival. In 2014, we provided sound reinforcement for the main stage, audio and lighting for the “Saloon” stage, and audio and staging for the “Grove” stage.

A particular focus on the main stage was to create a subwoofer array design that was powerful
enough to handle the numerous EDM acts without sacrificing
musicality for the artists that were less bass-centric. During pre-production, we calculated the ideal spacing of the chosen subwoofers to create consistent coverage and ample sound pressure. A challenging variable we encountered was the cement crowd barrier in front of the subwoofer array. By tweaking alignment techniques, we were able to overcome that obstacle. Throughout the festival, we heard many compliments from the engineers on the system’s performance.

To improve the efficiency of our main stage changes-overs between sets, we opted to use three different microphone splitters. This allowed for the headliner to stay patched from their sound check in the morning until their performance at night. During the rest of the day, the two remaining splitters were used to “leap frog” acts. This allowed for guest engineers to use their console show files exactly as saved.
